Inlays & Onlays

Inlays and Onlays are recommended when more than half a tooth’s surface is damaged. Made of porcelain, gold, or resin, inlays and onlays are bonded to the damaged area of the tooth to repair the surface.

An inlay is similar to a filling and is used to fill inside the cusp of the tooth. An onlay is for more substantial reconstruction and extends over one or more cusps of the tooth. These procedures are excellent alternatives to traditional fillings that can weaken a natural tooth by 50 percent. On the contrary, inlays and onlays can strengthen a tooth by up to 75 percent and will last up to 30 years.
